I strongly believe that divorce should be considered as a last resort. In my experience, many couples significantly improve their marriage after discovering and accepting their individual contributions to their difficulties, and realizing that many of their present problems stem from well-meaning but flawed solutions which have festered over time, exacerbating their initial conflict. I believe that although some differences between couples cannot be resolved, one of the goals of couples counseling is to discover which differences can be resolved and coach couples how to resolve them. Furthermore, I believe that with commitment and hard work, partners can learn to respectfully accept and often begin to appreciate their differences, resulting in a stronger and more loving relationship. I am also a strong advocate of pre-marital education which research has found to be a major factor in subsequent marital satisfaction. I practice short, goal-oriented, therapy giving couples practical tools they can use on a daily basis to improve their relationship, incorporating psycho-educational and cognitive-behavioral techniques derived from evidence-based well-researched studies. Occasionally, I will do phone consultations.
